Our Mission:

Empowering Our Community’s Voice for a Vibrant Peanut Island and Lagoon

As devoted advocates for the local boating community, residents, and businesses, we are on a mission to shape the future of Peanut Island and its surrounding lagoon. We believe in proactive engagement that allows everyone who cherishes this remarkable area to play an active role in its evolution.

Situated in the heart of Riviera Beach, Peanut Island holds an undeniable allure. This 80-acre haven, accessible only by boat, stands as a true tropical paradise. Nestled along the Intracoastal Waterway near the Lake Worth Inlet, it boasts historical treasures like the 1960s bunker created for President John F. Kennedy and the Coast Guard houses from the 1930s.

What sets Peanut Island apart is the organic sense of community that has naturally flourished here. This unspoken bond gives the island a unique charm, coupled with its incredibly diverse ecosystem. Divers and snorkelers frequent the live reefs, immersing themselves in the vibrant marine life.

Currently owned by the Port of Palm Beach Commission, the island’s land is leased to Palm Beach County. The current lease agreement, expiring in 2024, was renewed in 2021, with an added five acres encompassing the historic properties. However, decisions about the island’s fate rest in the hands of government agencies, appointed board members, and equity holders, excluding the local community’s direct input.

We’re here to change that narrative. Instead of being passive recipients of decisions that impact our lives, we’re striving to be integral to the decision-making process. Our aim is to give every member of our community a genuine voice – a voice that’s not defined by financial influence alone. If you share our passion for preserving the essence of Peanut Island and the lagoon, we invite you to join our association at www.pnutisland.com.

Upcoming events will provide platforms for open dialogue about our community’s interests and our strategic steps to assert our rights. Together, we can ensure that the public’s voice resounds strongly, securing a future where Peanut Island thrives as the treasure it is.”
